Plus, we have a lot of exciting events coming up that we’re proud to be a part of. Find out where our team will be over the next couple weeks, celebrating Earth Day out in the community.

Every Day is Earth Day

Why limit the celebrations to Monday? After all, the entire month of April is Earth Month. We’ve put together a list of ways you and your family can help the planet and become a more sustainable household. By making small changes to your home or day-to-day habits, you can significantly reduce waste and make an impact in your community. As an added bonus, not only do many of these shifts benefit the environment, but they also benefit your wallet.

Celebrating Earth Through Art

Since launching our Earth Day Art Program in 2020, we have had the pleasure of working with multiple different local artists to highlight the beauty of our planet and create one–of-a-kind art and illustrations. This year we worked with native Texan artist, Rebecca Barbour, to capture the beauty of the Lone Star State as we celebrate Earth Day. She created a piece of art that highlights so many of the things that make Texas beautiful, alongside the key elements that make TDS unique and noticeably different, noticeably better.

Someone's Trash is Someone Else's Treasure

One of the best ways to reduce the amount of waste you’re contributing into the landfill, is to donate clothes or household items you’re no longer using and to shop secondhand. Aka ~ thrifting ~ for repurposed or recycled items. We reclaim and repurpose items that are gently used and in working condition at our Citizens Convenience Center Resale Shop and make them available for purchase to the public. Items for sale include furniture, tools, appliances, books, electronics, clothes, toys and more. The Resale Shop operates Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm. Come visit our shop or go to our website to learn more.

Celebrating Out in the

Showing Love To Our Lakes

On Friday, some of our team members will be participating in a Lady Bird Lake Earth Day Cleanup in downtown Austin. One of our top priorities is being a great neighbor to the communities we serve. We enjoy being able to help clean up some of our favorite areas, such as Lady Bird Lake. In partnership with The Trail Conservancy and the Rowing Dock, we are picking up and removing trash from the lake and surrounding trails, as well as providing roll-off dumpsters and other services at the event. As a friendly reminder, if you see trash floating in your local lake and it’s not a hazardous item, pick it up and either dispose of it into the trash or recycle it.

Take Us Out To The Ball Game

Planning to attend the Longhorns baseball game this Sunday? You’ll see us there! To celebrate Earth Month and our role as the Preferred Sustainability Services Provider of Texas Athletics, we are sponsoring the UT baseball game this Sunday, April 21, as the Longhorns play against TCU. Look for our TDS booth at UFCU Disch-Falk Field starting at 10:30 am, for a chance to spin and win prizes. Hook ‘em, Horns!”

Earth Day 2020 Coloring Pages

In support of Earth Month and in an effort to connect with families during the COVID-19 crisis, TDS partnered with local Austin artist Becca Borrelli of Becca Borrelli Art to launch a series of coloring pages. You’ll notice three topics are covered on these coloring sheets:

Texas Disposal Systems page – This page tells the story of Texas Disposal Systems as a whole, encompassing their recycling, composting and landfill operations in Central Texas. The sweeping, curling waves allow for wide drawing spaces and a variety of shapes to fill with color.

Garden-Ville page – The second page tells the story of Garden-Ville, an affiliate of Texas Disposal Systems. The page tells the story of composting, which keeps organic material out of the landfill and builds a nutrient-rich product for gardeners and landscapers to use. With butterflies, plant life, and big skies, the page offers several eye-striking designs to color.

TDS Exotic Game Ranch page – This page tells the story of the TDS Exotic Game Ranch, which serves as living proof of TDS’ conservation efforts, as well as the showcasing of having animals thrive and co-exist next to a well-run waste disposal facility. With a giraffe, rhino and zebra well featured, as well as the Austin city skyline, the page shows how all these diverse eco-systems can live in harmony – and how they can all be colored in lovely ways!
