Citizens' Convenience Center and Recycling & Resale Center

The convenience center is open to the public six days per week, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. The special Citizens' Convenience Center is unique to the TDS landfill. Customers can back up into designated slots, and if necessary, with the assistance of an employee, unload their debris into rolloff boxes located below. When the box is full, they are taken to the working face of the landfill for disposal or to the appropriate recycling facility via TDS rolloff trucks. Not only is this convenient and easy for our customers, it improves their safety and vechicle cleanliness by preventing the need for customer to have to enter the active landfill disposal area.

The Recycling and Resale Center is unique to the TDS landfill. Several employees are readily available to assist customers in unloading waste and recyclables and to market usable items to the public at the Citizens’ Convenience Center. The landfill reclaims anything and everything, from bicycles and computers to lawn mowers, antiques, sporting goods, household items and furniture. The Austin Chronicle recognized TDSL as Austin’s best-unadvertised garage sale, as all recovered items are available for sale to the public for very reasonable prices. The Resale Center is a regular weekend stop for garage sale and bargain hunters.

Unusable recyclables are handled differently. For example, after employees remove the freon from refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, the items are then crushed and the metal is recycled. Recyclable plastic, aluminum, newspaper and steel can be dropped off free of charge. This service helps to preserve natural resources and provides a valuable service to area residents not served by a curbside recycling program.
