KXAN recently covered a Wreaths Across America event where volunteers placed more than 3,300 holiday wreaths on veterans’ headstones at the Texas State Cemetery to honor their service and sacrifice.
Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) has partnered with the program for several years to help make it a sustainable event. Each year, TDS assists in retrieving the wreaths after they have been laid out for two weeks and ensures they are fully recycled. “We recycle the entire wreath – the metal, bows, and greenery – turning them into compost and other materials,” says Katy Fordyce, Texas Disposal Systems Public Relations Program Manager.
By repurposing these materials, TDS helps create a full-circle process that honors veterans while reducing waste. The company’s ongoing involvement reflects its commitment to sustainability and giving back to the community.
